Oreo Frosting

Image
If I have a weakness, it's Oreos.  Ok fine, I'm a sucker for Doritos too, but Oreos might be even worse.  I don't allow myself to buy a package of them because I will eat the entire thing in two, maybe three days.  No, that's not a joke, yes I recognize that's sad.  Hence, I don't allow myself to buy them! But when I saw this on Pinterest, I couldn't resist.  Can you? Taken from MyBakingAddiction.com Right, so now that we're all on the same page, I immediately went out to purchase the goods.  I didn't make the cake from her recipe, because I already have a favorite chocolate cake recipe (that will be a later post).  I stuck with my cake, and I used her Oreo buttercream recipe.  My anticipation was so great, I could hardly stand it! But I was disappointed :(  That light, fluffy, creamy frosting that we associate with Oreo deliciousness was missing, and I should have seen it coming.  That kind of frosting comes from a whipped cre...

Sinfully Delicious Coffee Cake

Image
**Disclaimer:  If you count calories, you may just want to skip this post.  You've been fairly warned! My version from Easter '12 I discovered this little gem last year, and I don't remember why, but I don't think I need a reason.  It's a cinnamon coffee cake from Pinterest.  What more do we need?  I made it for a work breakfast, and then again for Easter brunch.  When it was a hit in both places, I stored this baby away for special days.  I've started jonesing for it again, so it was lucky for me that the work breakfast fell on this week! Unfortunately, it was a busy week.  My sister's birthday was yesterday and we went out for the evening.  When we came home, the couch was so inviting, and then it was bedtime!  I woke up this morning to my alarm and groggily laid there for a moment until a little voice in my head whispered, "Hey... you never made that cake that you need to have at work by 7:00 this morning." I won't bore you ...

Best-Ever Buttercream Frosting

Image
I can't believe I haven't posted this recipe yet.  It could be argued that this recipe is what kicked off my obsession with cooking and baking.  I loved baking and cooking, but it was about how it tasted, and it didn't usually look all that great.  My parents bought me some cake decorating stuff for Christmas, and my cousin asked me to take a cake decorating class with her. I was hooked. Problem was, the recipe the class gave me looked phenomenal... and tasted like plastic.  So I did some research and discovered that the problem was the shortening.  I needed butter.  Be real, people, butter makes everything better. Now, I've done my research.  The general consensus, along with my own experience, is that the butter makes it softer, so it doesn't hold up for much real decorating.  If you're trying to make flowers or something along those lines, you're going to need a straight up shortening/confectioners sugar concoction.  However, fo...

The Perfect Sugar Cookie

Image
After about 9 years of searching and experimenting, I have found the ideal decorating sugar cookie.  A few years ago, I plopped myself down on the floor of my local library in the middle of the baking cook book aisle and poured over book after book until I found the perfect recipe.  I've tweaked quite a bit and have played with it a couple of times since.  Here is the recipe, along with some pictures of the different cookies I've made with this recipe since discovering this gem. 4th of July Treat Deliciously Soft Sugar Cookies 11 Tablespoons unsalted butter, softened 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp baking powder 1 egg 1 tablespoon 2% milk 1 tsp vanilla 2 cups all-purpose flour Mix butter alone until creamy.  Add sugar and baking powder.  Beat until thoroughly blended.  Stir in egg, milk, and vanilla.  Add flour one cup at a time, mixing completely before adding the second cup.  Chill dough in refrigerator for at least 1 hour.   Sprinkle...
