Beef & Broccoli

There was some playing with proportions but this was deeeeelicious and will try again.

Beef & Broccoli

Marinade

1.5 lbs steak, sliced thin (we used ribeye, can use flank)
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp oil
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp garlic

Sauce

1 cup chicken or beef broth
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp dark soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp brown sugar
White pepper

In the Pan

1 tsp ginger
1 tsp garlic
2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
Cornstarch slurry to thicken

  1. Cut your steak against the grain. We purchased the pre-sliced ribeye from Costco.
  2. Cook broccoli. We spread it out on a cookie sheet and bake in the toaster oven at 350* for 18 minutes.
  3. Mix marinade into the sliced meat and set aside for 30+ minutes (the longer the better).
  4. Prepare your sauce by whisking all sauce ingredients into a mixing bowl. Set aside.
  5. In a large skillet or wok, heat oil until very hot. Add in your marinated meat and spread out to brown. Leave it alone to brown until the edges are beginning to cook. Stir and continue to cook for another minute.
  6. Remove the meat and set aside.
  7. You may need to add more oil here, then sauté the freshly grated ginger and garlic until fragrant. Pour in the Shaoxing wine.
  8. Add in your sauce and let it come to a boil. In a separate small bowl, mix equal parts cornstarch and water (about 2 tbsp each) and pour it into the sauce. Cook, stirring frequently, until sauce begins to thicken.
  9. Add your meat back to the pan, along with cooked broccoli. Stir together to coat everything evenly and remove from heat. Serve over rice or noodles.
